Description
Situated 14 km out to sea, the island of Grip is part of Kristiansund municipality. It is a small fishing community made up of more than 80 islands of all sizes. In addition to the island of Grip itself, Bratthårskollen with the 47 m high Grip lighthouse is the only populated island.

Houses jostle shoulder to shoulder along the narrow streets on the island of Grip; with its many boathouses and jetties, and with the old stave church in the middle of the island, Grip looks like a small town floating on the sea. All the houses are intact and well maintained despite the fact that there are no permanent residents. The last residents left Grip in 1964. Today, the houses on Grip serve as summer houses for those who moved away and their descendants.

Visitors will find a trip to Grip one of the best excursions along the coast of Fjord Norway in summertime. Daily departures from Kristiansund during season.

Grip Stave church

In the middle of the island, protected by houses and on its highest point, you will find the little red stave church, standing as it has done for more than 500 years, a meeting point in happy times and also in sad times. The altarpiece was donated by the Duth princess Elisabeth in gratitude for her rescue at sea by Norwegian sailors during a violent storm in 1515.
