Description
A unique stretch of road which takes you right out to the ocean’s edge. In 2005, the road was voted Norway’s
«Engineering Feat of the Century», and is also known to be the world's most beautiful drive. It connects Averøy with the mainland via a series of small islands and islets spanned by a total of eight bridges over 8274 meters. The road was opened in 1989 and is toll free.

The Atlantic Road has National Tourist Route status and the entire stretch between Bud and Kristiansund is one continuous experience packed with coastal scenery, culture and history. The contrasts between a trip on a sun-soaked and tranquil summer day and a foam-sprayed journey in a storm from the northwest are amazing. Take your time and open all of your senses. The Atlantic Road experience will give you memories for life. Park your car at designated stopping places, climb a hillock and enjoy the salty air and the magnificent view. Whether the ocean is flat calm or a storm is brewing; there are great nature experiences in store.

Make your way to Håholmen (daily boat trips during the summer). Håholmen and Strømsholmen also organise fishing trips. Several of the accommodation options on Averøy also offer fishing trips with a skipper.

Hestskjæret Lighthouse

In 1878 the Lighthouse Authority purchased Vestre Hestskjæret, a skerry off Honningsøya island, for 160 kroner. The lighthouse, situated 15 km by sea from Kristiansund, became operational on 1 November 1879. It was the first Norwegian lighthouse to utilise a Swedish invention that broke up the light into timed intervals. This was more informative and was well received by seafarers.

Orca Safari

6 days orca safari, live-aboard: Every year in January-February, the probably largest gathering of "killerwhales" (Orca) in the world take place in the North West Cost of Norway, due to enormous amounts of herring. Sometimes as many as 700 whales can be observed at the same time. We follow the whales closely to watch them play and feed. When possible, we enter the water and dive with them. To be with these magnificent animals in their own habitat is an experience for life. We operate from a well equipped 91ft live-aboard cutter with compressor, tanks and weights for 12 divers. Name of the boat M/S "Sula".
