Winter in Nordmøre offers wonderful experiences. Like when
the ocean surges up the fjords to meet the spectacularly steep mountain peaks
blanketed in snow. Sometimes the weather gods turn frisky and you can see
spectacular white horses on the waves that break on the shore.
In Nordmøre you really experience the power and beauty of
nature.
Trollheimen, Sunndalsøra and Dovrefjell have several peaks
over 1000 metres that are perfect for skiing trips. The islands and the outer
part of Nordmøre also offer marvellous skiing, and there is nothing finer than
skiing down pristine mountain slopes in radiant sunshine, especially when you
have a view of the sea all the way. A ski trip in spring is highly recommended.
Sometimes the weather gods brew up a storm, an experience
that is not to be missed. We recommend a drive out on the Atlantic Road to see
the waves whipping up white horses and crashing against the shore. The forces
of nature make you feel small.
On the quayside in Kristiansund you can buy fresh prawns
while you plan the next day’s skiing trip. There are usually miles of prepared
ski tracks in Nordmøre and we
recommend contacting us or the local tourist office to find out where to go. If
not, you’ll probably find your own way.
If your preference is ”downhill skiing” on prepared slopes,
there are some good ones to be found at Sæterlia in Surnadal valley, taking the
Sunndal skilift. It’s not far to well-known
destinations like Oppdal and Bjorli, and there’s also a fine slope called Tusten
nearby.
In February you can see killer whales at close range.
Strømsholmen Diving Centre offers Orca Safari. Not much beats this for
excitement!
So in Nordmøre you’ll experience white peaks both on land
and at sea.
